The Overland Commentator

Yes, you read that right, the Overland Commentator. There’s a change on the horizon…

A former acquaintance, dubbed me the Overland Curmudgeon a little over a year and half ago. Shortly thereafter people started asking me why THAT name. Some asked, what’s a curmudgeon (stupid millennial)? Most just laughed about it and over the next few months the name caught on. However, over the last 10 or 11 months it’s kind of worn thin with me and I feel like it takes away from my message. A curmudgeon could also be called a whiner, complainer, bellyacher, complainer, sourpuss,etc. Those descriptions do not fit me or what I am about. I don’t want people to think my irreverent humor is some sort of gag or shtick. Sure, I make my point at other people’s expense. If you can’t make fun of other people, who are you going to make fun of? Right? What I do here and on my podcast is very important to me and I don’t want anything to take away from that. 

As I mentioned in last week’s podcast I am going to strive to limit my personal attacks and focus on the issues. I don’t pretend to represent everyone in the overland community. The people I speak for are the folks who long for off-grid adventure, who see through the over-commercialization of an amazing past time, ADVENTURE!

I started the HighPoint Overland Podcast on September 30, 2020. I had zero expectations when I sat down behind the microphone for the first time. I certainly didn’t think I would make it to 110 episodes and counting. I have ruffled plenty of feathers over the last 27 months. There are plenty who have distanced themselves from me and that is OK. I will always be true to who I am. You will never hear me sugarcoat anything.

The Overland Curmudgeon is no more. Going forward I will identify as the Overland Commentator! With all that being said, I hope you give the podcast a listen if you haven’t already. Get out there and find adventure! Be good stewards of the land. It’s an amazing gift we have been blessed with.
