I’m sure there are not many reading this blog that grew up in the 70s and 80s. Back then, life was much slower and much simpler. Obviously we didn’t have the internet and had to…..gasp……go to the library and look things up OR fake it and act like we knew our stuff. Stores were closed on Sundays, we had 3 TV channels and no remote. Your dad would yell at you from the back room to come and change the channel. Ahh, good times.
Now we have it easy for everything. Food cooks quicker, if we even cook. There are ready to eat meals in the grocery store. Don’t feel like cooking but it’s raining? Call Uber Eats and get take-away food in 30 minutes. I remember the first time I had pizza delivered to the house. It was like Christmas!
We also have at the tip of our fingers the ability to research any and everything our heart desires. But even then there is laziness.
Take trip planning. I mean, really, who doesn’t LOVE planning a trip? IMO it’s the best part of the whole experience. But some are lazy. They’d rather someone plan for them. I guess that sort of thing has been around for a while with travel agents. At least as a profession, travel agents go to school, increase their learning, know the ins and outs of all the particulars of a certain area, like Disney. But a regular, old fashioned road trip? Who would pay for someone else to plan it for them? Well, if you listen to the OC, you’ll know there are plenty of bozos who give money to others to plan trips, purchase waypoints, etc. Before listening to Highpoint I really didn’t have an idea these sorts of things went on. The first person I saw selling waypoints was Revere Overland. Good content on Youtube but he had an ad every 5 minutes in his YT videos. That was just too much for me. Pass, unfollow, unsubscribe.
There are so many opportunities for laziness. Are you overweight and don’t like to eat healthy and make lifestyle changes? Hell, get yo self a lap band. Bonus points if you use your Youtube influencer money to pay for it. Don’t like to exercise to help you lose weight? Get an e-bike and “ride” the bike all over for “exercise”. What in the actual F? Don’t like to work a real job? Become famous on Insta or Youtube just for living the lifestyle others want and lazy people will pay you for it. Actually, I’ll admit that becoming an influencer or YouTuber is a semi-lazy job, but you do have to work it. But the work happens from the comfort of home rather than a cubicle and you report only to yourself. The real laziness in that industry comes from those who pay the influencer because they, themselves, are too lazy to get out and do all the things. I guess because it takes planning??
Y’all, I’m a doer. I do not like to be lazy. I have an RV renovation project going on right now, work a full-time job, have a side hustle and a second side hustle. I read almost 100 books last year, planned a 3 week road trip plus various overland weekends, did two major home renovation projects, kept my house clean and healthy food cooked. I work out 5 days a week (most of the time) and still find time to visit my parents every week. And sometimes I put out Youtube videos of our adventures. YouTube videos are probably the bottom of the barrel of things I choose to do. I choose to let it slip because I don’t really enjoy it. I would never say I don’t have time for creating YouTube videos. I just don’t want to. People who say “they don’t have time” for all those types of things are lying. They CHOOSE what’s important to them and when they are confronted with why don’t they do XYZ, they say they don’t have time. I call bullshit on that.
I read once that instead of saying, “I don’t have time” say “That is not important to me” and watch your mindset change. It really works!
In closing, I fear for society. Not only have we become so exceptionally lazy, we’ve also become so entitled. This is a deadly combination. Honestly, I’m shocked that Russia and/or China have not already invaded our country. I’m holding out hope that the young’ins will rally around a common cause if it comes to invasion. Y’all just don’t be lazy when it comes to killing Commies!
